Ecocem, a European leader in low-carbon cement technologies, recently received €4 million in funding from the European Union through the EIC Pathfinder Challenges 2024 program. The goal of the project is to develop an innovative technology that utilizes slag from electric arc furnaces, transforming it into a high-performance supplementary cementitious material.
This initiative is part of Europe’s broader efforts to drastically reduce CO2 emissions in the construction industry, contributing to the green transition and the climate goals for 2030 and 2050. Ecocem estimates the new slag-based product can reduce emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional cement without compromising technical performance.
