The European Cement Market: How CBAM and Technology Are Transforming the Industry – Heidelberg Launches Net-Zero Cement, While Poland Invests in CCS

Revival of Decarbonisation Innovations: Heidelberg Materials Introduces Net-Zero Cement in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina

Heidelberg Materials has announced the introduction of its revolutionary cement evoZero® to the South-Eastern European market — the world’s first cement with a zero-carbon footprint. Production has already started at the Brevik plant in Norway, which actively captures and stores CO₂. Although the cement is not yet officially available in Croatia and Bosnia, the company is ready to respond to demand for major infrastructure projects. Heidelberg has also confirmed its readiness to comply with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in 2026, creating a competitive advantage thanks to its early investments (cemnet.com).

Poland Calls for Government Support of Large-Scale CCS Infrastructure

Poland’s cement industry is urging the government to appoint a dedicated authority responsible for developing CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) infrastructure. Among the key initiatives is the Go4ECOPlanet installation at Holcim’s Kuyavia plant. An environmental permit has already been issued, and the project’s budget is estimated at around PLN 2 billion (≈USD 490 million) (cemnet.com).

Our Focus

At EASTGAS, we closely observe how rapidly Europe’s cement industry is transforming. Today, major producers are launching net-zero cements and investing heavily in CCS, and we understand that reliable suppliers of sustainable raw materials are critical for these transitions.

That is why EASTGAS S.R.L. already supplies the EU market with eco-friendly materials for the cement industry, in particular granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) and air-cooled slag (ACS). These materials significantly reduce the carbon footprint of both cement and concrete.

Experts note: demand for “green” cement will rise due to CBAM, while the use of blast furnace slag can cut the carbon footprint by up to 40%. We are ready to support our European partners with stable deliveries and certified products that meet the highest standards of sustainable construction.
